1950s Rare Christmas Poodles Silk Scarf, by Brooke Cadwallader
Exactly what a poodle lover needs! This super adorable fine silk scarf by Brooke Cadwallader in the 1950s shows a poodle party in full swing, with pups hanging out of the window in merriment, dancing on balconies and having a good time. There is also a Christmas message to the corner from the designers.
This is a perfect piece if you want some history in your collection. The Cadwalladers were sought after scarf designers, and a piece of theirs would fetch three figures in the 1940s and 1950s. Their best customers would receive a specially designed scarf every Christmas to thank them for their custom, and this is one of them! Examples of their work can be found in the Met Museum in NY and are very sought after.
This is particularly special as they loved living in their NY townhouse, and were well know for their poodle pets, so this I imagine was a design very close to their hearts.
• Print in black with pink snowflakes. Main print shows a NY town house with a poodle Christmas party including a poor poodle tramp to the side.
• Bright pink background, closer in hue to the photo on the mannequin
• Made from fine semi sheer silk crepe
• Hand rolled edge
• This is not perfect and is priced accordingly. There are a couple of very small holes, on by the edge and one near the writing, There is also some portions of fade which looks to have been from poor previous storage and these are shown as slightly lighter patches. All shown in photos.
